Quake hits western Iran, causes no casualties

Tehran, August 9, IRNA – An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook Gilan Gharb County, Kermanshah Province on Sunday but caused no casualties, the local official Kourosh Mahmoudian said.

The Crisis Management Department has been placed on full alert, he further noted.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at 1:46 p.m. local time at the depth of 8 km underground.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
