Regional states should maintain security in West Asia: Iran official

Tehran, IRNA – An Iranian politician has pointed to the political commonalities between Oman and Iran, underscoring that the regional security should be preserved by the countries of the West Asia region.

Ali-Reza Enayati, Director General of the Persian Gulf Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, told IRNA on Wednesday that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian’s visit to Muscat is of great importance, and that he conveyed the message of President Ebrahim Raisi to Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

In the talks and message, the Omani Sultan was invited to visit Iran to finalize their previous agreements, the director general noted, adding that the Iranian FM also held talks with different officials in a one-day trip.

FM Amirabdollahian and the Omani officials discussed economic, trade, transport, energy and political issues, he said, adding that both sides underlined the need for the expansion of regional cooperation to guarantee development of the region.

Oman and Iran enjoy many political commonalities in respect of regional issues, Enayati said, arguing that security in the region should help make operational regional states’ capacities and enhance sustainable security in an inclusive and multilateral way.

As to a meeting between the Iranian foreign minister and spokesman for Yemen's Ansarullah Movement Mohammed Abdul-Salam, Enayati said that Iran stresses the need for the full removal of the siege of the war-torn country and supports political solution of the crisis in Yemen.

Abdul-Salam appreciated the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people for their support for the Arab country.
