-- Iran reports record peak usage of electricity at 60 GW
Iran’s Energy Ministry said power consumption in the country rose to a record of 60 gigawatts (GW) at peak hour on June 6.
Iranian Electricity Sector Spokesman Mostafa Rajabi said that the figure is five GW higher than the consumption recorded on the same day in 2021, Press TV reported.
“That is a big figure ... however, blackouts were avoided and demand was met through better management at our operating power plants,” Rajabi told the state TV although he admitted that several places in the country had experienced brief power cuts over technical issues that occurred in the grid.
-- 37% of Tehran population at risk of urban decay
Thirty-seven percent of Tehran's population are living in decaying urban settings, stated deputy of urban development at Tehran Municipality.
Reporting to the Islamic City Council of Tehran (ICCT), Hamidreza Saremi said, “Based on the suggestions of council members concerning the renovation of decaying urban settings in Tehran, 15 infrastructural projects are underway in Nafar Abad neighborhood.
-- Efforts needed to keep woodturning craft alive
The skinny man with gray hair picked up one of the logs left in the corner of his old workshop and tied its two pre-cut ends to a wood lathe machine.
When the machine was turned on, the log rotated quickly and the wood chips scattered all around. It did not take long for the log to be shaped into a cone and a wooden club, known as mil, equipment used in varzesh-e bastani, was almost made.
Varzesh-e bastani is a traditional Iranian martial art. It was recognized as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO under the name of Pahlevani, or Zurkhaneh rituals.

-- Iran’s Military Products Can Help Iraq Beef Up Security
Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Muhammad-Reza Gharaei Ashtiani on Tuesday said that his country’s military achievements could effectively help neighboring Iraq to beef up security.
During a meeting with Iraqi Interior Minister Othman al-Ghanimi in Baghdad, Ashtiani paid tribute to top Iranian anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and deputy commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who were assassinated in a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport in January 2020.

Russian media have reported that their national football team will play a friendly against Iran in August, 2022.
The Russian Football Federation whose country’s team was been banned from competing in the World Cup after Russia-Ukraine war, has also had been faced with problems in arranging for friendly matches.
Now the SE, Russian sports news agency, has reported that the Russian national football team will play two friendly games in August, one of which will be versus Iran.

In response to the Cannes Festival desecrating film ‘Holy Spider,’ a cartoon exhibition ‘ Cannes in Close-up’ is underway in Tehran’s Iranian capital.
In a politicized act, the Cannes Film Festival awarded the film ‘Holy Spider’ which has shown a distorted image of Iranian society and insulted the transcendent beliefs of the Shiites.
The expo held by Tehran’s municipality aims at criticizing the politicized and blasphemous act of the Cannes Film Festival through satire.

-- Iran start VNL 2022 on high note
Iran defeated China 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15) at the men’s Volleyball Nations League 2022 Pool 1 early Wednesday. Morteza Sharifi top-scored with 20 points, while Yu Yuantai and Zhang Jingyin scored 16 points each for China.
The first competition day was held in Brasilia, Brazil. Iran are scheduled to play the Netherlands Early Friday.

The Iranian House of Cartoon is mocking the Cannes Film Festival decision to award “Holy Spider” by organizing three exhibitions entitled “Cannes in Close-up”.
Iran has found the film insulting to Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Imam of the Shia. One of the exhibitions opened on Monday in the Vali-e Asr Station of the Tehran subway, where the Iranian House of Cartoon’s statement was read.
-- Iran, Qatar ink MOU to conclude 8th Joint Economic Committee meeting
Iran and Qatar inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the end of the two countries’ eighth Joint Economic Committee meeting in Doha on Monday to outline avenues for future cooperation, IRIB reported.
The MOU was signed by Iranian Energy Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian and Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al-Thani who co-chaired the committee meeting.
