According to IRNA reporter, Amirabdollahian arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport on Wednesday evening local time where he was welcomed by Amir-Saeid Iravani, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations.
This is the first visit of Iran's foreign minister to the headquarters of the United Nations, and the third trip since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and is part of his active international diplomacy with regard to the Palestinian issues.
Amirabdollahian is scheduled to attend a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Palestine under the agenda "The situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian issue" on Thursday local time.
The visit comes as the 15-member council is due to vote on Friday on a draft resolution that recommends to the 193-member General Assembly that the State of Palestine be admitted as full member at the United Nations.
A council resolution needs at least nine votes in favor and no vetoes by the U.S., Britain, France, Russia or China to pass.
Informed sources say that the resolution has the support of 13 members but the US, a key backer of the Zionist regime is likely to use, as usual, its veto against the move.
Council member Algeria, which put forward the draft resolution, had requested a vote for Thursday afternoon to coincide with a Security Council meeting on the Middle East.
Apart from delivering a speech at the Security Council meeting, Amirabdollahian is set to meet with the UN Secretary General and the ambassadors of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the United Nations.
