OANA issued the statement at the opening ceremony of its meeting in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Monday.
The statement called for the protection of journalists in war zones, and specifically expressed concern over their safety in the Gaza Strip, which is targeted by near-constant airstrikes by the Israeli regime for 16 days now.
OANA called on all bodies and organizations to help protect the journalists covering the war in Gaza.
In its statement, the organization also raised the issue of spreading disinformation, calling on news agencies to help provide accurate, comprehensive and balanced information to audience.
The 51st meeting of the executive and technical boards of OANA is held in Istanbul from October 22 to 25.
OANA was formed in 1961 on UNESCO’s initiative, with the aim of facilitating the spread of information among the countries of the region.
Currently, 44 news agencies from 35 countries in the Asia and Pacific region are members of OANA.
