The Ministry said in a Tuesday statement that its round-the-clock surveillance had revealed that an unidentified foreign intelligence service had been collecting information on Iranians traveling to and from the country, including individuals who held key positions in government departments or had access to important data in sensitive institutions.
The Ministry said in the statement that it had succeeded in identifying a network of intermediaries and executive agents who had been collecting data from several key organizations and agencies inside Iran.
The agents tried to illegally utilize the available databases in Iran and extracted information about people travelling to and from the country and delivered the information to the foreign intelligence service in question, said the statement.
It added that after executive agents and intermediaries of the network were identified inside Iran, they were immediately arrested upon an order by judicial authorities in the country.
