Social media platforms released videos and pictures of yellow smoke over the refinery on Wednesday. IRNA correspondent reported that a power cut in a unit of the Abadan Refinery was the source of the incident; however, the staff of the refinery is trying to fix the problem.
Moreover, the white smoke emitted from one of the chimneys of the refinery was because of the operation to launch the unit. The smoke emission is part of the operational process, which occurred in previous years, as well.
Head of the Department of Environment in Abadan Ali Fathinia confirmed the technical problem, noting that the technical problem was the cause of an unpleasant smell similar to natural gas odor in certain districts of Abadan and that the unpleasant smell is not harmful to people.
