Deal available if US is realistic: FM

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s foreign minister said in a phone call with his Nigerian counterpart that if the United States is realistic in the talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, a deal will be available.

Hossein Amirabdollahian and the Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama had a phone conversation on bilateral relations and international developments on Tuesday.

Amirabdollahian said that the sixth meeting of the Iran-Nigeria joint cooperation commission was successful, highlighting the significance of the implementation of the documents signed during the meeting.

The Iranian foreign minister also touched on the latest situation with the talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, emphasizing Iran’s commitment to continuation of the talks and to reaching a strong, sustainable deal.

He expressed hope that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would do its tasks in a technical manner and avoid politicization.

A deal is available if the US is realistic, Amirabdollahian noted.

Onyeama, for his part, expressed hope that the Iranian foreign minister would include Nigeria in the next Africa tour.

He endorsed Iran’s goodwill in the Vienna talks to remove sanctions and hoped for the US’ return to the deal, mentioning Washington’s withdrawal from the deal in 2018.
