Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanani said, in protest at the ruling that was issued based on fabricated allegations, Iran has decided to recall its ambassador to Stockholm for consultations.
Last Thursday, a Swedish court sentenced Hamid Nouri to life in prison for alleged rights abuses against members of the Mujahidin Khalq Organization, a terrorist group that is responsible for the killing of thousands of Iranians.
The sentencing was handed down after a trial process that began following Nouri’s arrest in Sweden in 2019.
Several weeks ago, Nouri in an audio file said that he had been tortured while in custody and denied medical care despite suffering from eye problems.
He also criticized human rights organizations for letting him down by failing to provide him the chance to speak about his ordeals.
Iran has called the verdict politically-motivated.
