Bolton’s boasting of his role in coups surprising no one: FM spox

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has underscored that former National Security Advisor of the United States John Bolton’s admitting of having a hand in coup d'états in other countries did not astonish people around the globe.

Kanaani wrote in his Twitter account that Bolton’s boasting of his role in attempted coups around the world made no one surprised.

"Open secret - nefarious activities of a notorious government - made public," he added.

Kanaani reiterated that good news that those policies, including "last resort" threats, have failed & will continue to fail, and said, "US have to change course."

Speaking to CNN after the day’s January 6 committee hearing, Bolton said it was wrong to describe Trump’s attempt to stay in power after the 2020 election as a coup.

His host, Jake Tapper, said: “One doesn’t have to be brilliant to attempt a coup.”

Bolton said: “I disagree with that, as somebody who has helped plan coups d'état, not here, but you know, other places. It takes a lot of work and that’s not what [Trump] did. It was just stumbling around from one idea to another.

Since the 19th century, the United States government has participated and interfered, both overtly and covertly, in the replacement of several foreign governments, including neighbors Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic etc.
