Gov't spox slams misuse of freedom of expression in West

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's Government Spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi stressed on Monday that the freedom of expression has become a tool for fueling extremism and racism in the West.

"Freedom of religion has been replaced by insults against religions and freedom of expression has become a tool for fueling extremism and racism in the West," Bahadori Jahromi wrote in his Twitter account on Monday morning.

"The shameful insulting against 2 billion Muslims during Ramadan, with Swedish police support, is an absolute hateful act," he added.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran condemns desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and expects immediate reaction from the Swedish Government.

He added that intentional repetition of anti-Islam blasphemous act in Sweden in Ramadan month has hurt the feeling of Muslims both in Sweden and across the world.

The blasphemy is an evident example of hatred in contrast with freedom of speech and should be condemned by all those who believe in coexistence and dialogue between faiths, the spokesman noted.
