Tehran, IRNA - The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Sunday, March 13, 2022:

-- US has failed to stop oil exports: Iran

Iran said on Saturday that US attempts to seize its tankers and oil cargo had failed to stop exports. “Attempts by the enemy to reduce Iran’s oil exports and capture the country’s ships have taken place many times” in past months, Oil Minister Jawad Owji told Iran newspaper.  
“When the enemy saw that it was helpless and could not stop our exports and contracts, it went for our ships,” he said. Owji’s comments came after US court documents showed the United States had seized the cargo of two tankers carrying Iranian crude.

-- Nearly 70 countries import Iranian dates: NAID

Iran annually exports 250,000-300,000 tons of dates to 69 countries, which fetches about $300 million, announced the head of the National Association of Iranian Dates (NAID).
Talking to Iran Daily, Meqdad Takalou-Zadeh said during last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2021), Iran topped the list of date exporters of the world in terms of weight, while in recent years, the country has been the fifth or sixth date exporter, in terms of
value.
“In terms of processing and packaging of dates, some exporting countries are in a better position than us, and some of the countries, such as Tunisia and Algeria, hold better position in terms of export value due to their proximity to the European market and receive more export earnings,” he explained.

-- Iran Says Will Not Allow Any Outside Meddling

 Iran said Saturday it will strongly protect its national interests and independence and will never allow any country to interfere in its domestic affairs.

“We are strong enough and we will not give up any effort to protect the country’s national interests, independence and territorial integrity,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said. “On the other hand, we will not allow any country to exploit or interfere” the country’s affairs, he added. He also said Iran pursues an “independent” stance on the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, reiterating Tehran’s opposition to war.

-- Iran Informs UN of Right to Respond to Criminal Israeli Act

Following the martyrdom of two Iranian advisors at the hands of the occupying regime of Israel in Syria, Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations says the Islamic Republic considers itself rightful to defend itself and its interests against the regime’s acts of terrorism.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its inherent right to self-defense, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, to respond to such criminal act whenever it deems appropriate,” the mission wrote in letters to the UN secretary general and the world body’s Security Council.

--Iran Down Singapore at 2022 Men’s AHF Cup

 Iran national hockey team has beaten Singapore 2-1 in its opening match of the 2022 Men’s AHF Cup. Iran has been drawn in Group B along with Indonesia, Oman, Singapore and Bangladesh.
Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Uzbekistan are in Group A.
China was supposed to compete in Group A but withdrew from the competition. The 2022 Men’s AHF Cup is the sixth edition of the Men’s AHF Cup, the quadrennial qualification tournament for the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup organized by the Asian Hockey Federation.

-- Struggling Shahr Khodro edge Fajr Sepasi: IPL

Struggling football team Shahr Khodro defeated Fajr Sepasi 1-0 on Matchday 22 of Iran Professional League (IPL) on Saturday.

Mojtaba Bijan scored the winning goal in the dying moments of the match from the penalty spot. Tractor suffered a 2-1 home loss against Foolad.

Havadar and Mes shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

-- Iran’s exports to SCO members rise 41%

The value of Iran’s exports to the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) increased 41 percent in the first 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2021-February 19, 2022) as compared to the figure for the previous year’s same period, the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced.

According to Ruhollah Latifi, Iran exported 40,642,272 tons of goods worth more than $18.295 billion to the SCO members in the mentioned period, IRNA reported.

Iran and the SCO member countries traded over 48.903 million tons of commodities worth more than $32.712 billion in the said 11 months, Latifi stated.
