Iran to soon solve transit route issues with Armenia: Customs Chief

Moscow, IRNA – Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration Mehdi Mirashrafi said that based on the recent talks with Armenia, Iran’s transit road issues with the country would be solved soon.

Mirashrafi who is in Moscow to attend and international customs conference told IRNA in an interview on Sunday that Iran has diversified its international routes, so that no single route could impose a limitation on Iran’s international trade.

In addition to ground roads, Iran has routes in the Caspian Sea through Ro-Ro ships to Azerbaijan Republic, Russia, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, Mirashrafi added.

He also said that Iran had two billion dollars of imports from Eurasia in the past year and one billion dollar of exports to the region in the same period.

The official noted that he had meetings with Russian officials on the sidelines of the conference, where the Russians had ensured that they were determined to expand trade ties with Iran.

Mirashrafi said that he had signed three MoUs and two agreements with Russians on customs issues and two other agreements would be signed by the end of the year.
