Iran Red Crescent ready to become hub for regional rescue ops

Tehran, June 15, IRNA - Iran's Red Crescent Society is well prepared to turn into a center for international and regional rescue operations especially in West Asia, an official believes.

Atta Morteza Mohammad Dorani , Head of the Representation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Iran, said on Tuesday that the country's IFRC can gradually pave the ground for turning into a hub for rescue operations throughout the region, emphasizing that the goal needs special budget and standard.
Since Iran is a country that has good experience in dealing with numerous natural disasters; it can use its capabilities to help the IFRC in the West Asia region, he added.
Mehdi Valipour, head of the Red Crescent Society's Rescue and Relief Organization of Iran, expressed gratitude for the current cooperation between the IFRC and Iran's Red Crescent Society, hoping that the number of joint ventures will increase in the future.
Referring to the existing logistics available for operation in Iran at the hands of the Red Crescent Society's Rescue and Relief Organization, Valipour noted that the organization requires more equipment to enhance its agility in the face of crises.
The United States' illegal and cruel sanctions made some restrictions for Iran to procure the equipment required by the organization, he said, asking for more assistance from the IFRC.
Valipour went on to say that the Red Crescent Society of Iran has a good potential to form houses to help international activities in the field of responding to unprecedented happenings; so, other nations can utilize Iranian's experience in this regard.
Dorani welcomed the project of establishing Red Crescent Society houses in Iran, noting that such a valuable program has played a key role in promoting education and resilience among people.
Four provinces in Iran have been focused on by the Red Crescent Society to get assistance for their fight against drought, which also needs international cooperation, Dorani added.
