Iran keen on developing cultural cooperation with Azerbaijan: IRNA chief

Baku, Oct 27, IRNA - Managing director of the Islamic News Agency (IRNA) Zia Hashemi, who is visiting Baku, said that Iran is willing to develop and deepen scientific and cultural relations with all neighboring countries, especially Azerbaijan.

In the meeting with the head of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Akef Ali Zadeh in the venue of the historical building of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in Baku, Hashemi said, “Academic figures and cultural relations can play a historic role in the fate of the countries.”

Emphasizing the necessity of communication between the academic centers of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the head of the Islamic Republic News Agency added, “We have made good progress in the field of student exchange, but more work needs to be done in the field of exchange of professors.”

“We live In a crucial period for Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan when the way we deal with our problems will be remembered,” Hashemi said.

He added, “We do not feel strange in Azerbaijan, and this is the product of a joint asset that needs to be protected because evil forces might be seeking to disrupt it.”

Managing Director of IRNA said, “History is full of ups and downs and you can play a historical role as a scientific figure. In Iran and Azerbaijan, we have scientists who can accelerate the development of societies, which requires the creation of links.'

Akef Alizadeh, the head of the National Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan Republic, also expressing his interest in cooperating with Iranian scientific and research institutions in various fields, said,”We can expand this cooperation by signing an agreement.”

Referring to the fact that the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iran are neighboring countries and both countries are on the Caspian Sea, he added that the signing of the Caspian Sea Legal Regime has provided a good condition for cooperation among all the Caspian Sea littoral states in various fields, including science and research .

Iranian cultural attache in Baku Asghar Farsi, head of the ECO Cultural Institute Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri, and MP of Shabestar Town in the Iranian parliament Masoumah Aqapour who have attended the 6th World Summit on Humanitarianism in Baku were present in the meeting of Hashemi and the Azerbaijan official.
