New political circus in Israel seeking to hinder Gaza ceasefire deal

Tehran, IRNA – Some of the most radical members of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition are raising a ruckus to hamper an end to over 15 months of a deadly war that has already killed more than 46,500 Palestinians.

According to The New York Times’ Thursday report, the coalition members in Israel have led Netanyahu to “face a crisis over the Gaza ceasefire deal”.

The members threatened to quit, so Netanyahu had to “choose: them or the agreement”, the report said.

Disagreement over the truce deal started just hours after the announcement of the agreement on January 16.

The move threatened to destabilize the Israeli cabinet at a critical time even though it would not, in and of itself, prevent the Gaza deal from moving ahead, according to the report.

"A majority in the cabinet is in favor of the cease-fire agreement, and it is expected to be approved even without the votes of Jewish Power and another far-right party in the coalition, Religious Zionism.”
