Top Iranian diplomat discusses regional issues with Lebanon speaker

Beirut, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has reiterated his country’s support for stability and security in Lebanon as he met the country’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in the capital Beirut for talks that also covered other regional issues.

Amirabdollahian held talks with Berri on Saturday, the second day of his visit to Lebanon.

The top Iranian diplomat hailed the significant role Berri has played in Lebanon’s politics, and said that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the political process as well as stability and security in the Arab country.

The two discussed other regional issues including the Gaza war as well.

Amirabdollahian said that supporting the Palestinian people and resistance is an unchanged policy of the Islamic Republic.

He also said, all key regional and international players admit that the Israeli war on Gaza is proved to be a failure despite the massacre of Palestinians by the regime and the US’s unwavering support for Tel Aviv.

Yet, the US unfortunately does not show any sign of willingness to end the war, which is in contrast with its claims that it is not after expanding the war in the region, the Iranian foreign minister noted.

He also referred to the ongoing US-UK airstrikes against Yemen, calling them a strategic mistake.

“The US and the UK have made a strategic mistake by attacking Yemen. They are deepening the crisis in the region and the Red Sea through violating Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Amirabdollahian stressed that war is not a solution and will not be fruitful for “war-mongers”, saying that the solution is an immediate stop to the Gaza war and to give the Palestinians the chance to decide on how to rule post-war Gaza and the West Bank.

Berri, on his part, thanked Iran for supporting his country and briefed the Iranian foreign minister on the latest status of the political process in Lebanon.

The Lebanese official also emphasized the need to continue efforts aimed at establishing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, while praising the resistance of the Palestinian people in the besieged territory.

He added that Lebanon supports any agreement among Palestinians groups on ruling the Palestinian territories.
