"We are in constant contact with our allies and partners, including the E3, but we're not going to detail diplomatic conversations or respond to rumors, many of which are simply false,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital in response to a question about an Axios report that the US is discussing a temporary deal with Iran.
E3 is an abbreviation for France, Germany and Britain, the three European countries that are party to the JCPOA.
The Iran nuclear deal ran into trouble in May 2018 when the US unilaterally withdrew from it and reinstated sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
Tehran and the remaining JCPOA members began talks in April 2021 to revive the deal, with the Iranian authorities stressing that the goal is to lift the “cruel” sanctions.
