FM says their constitution does not allow using Iraqi soil for attacking neighbors

Tehran, IRNA – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on Wednesday that his country’s constitution does not allow using the Iraqi soil for waging attacks on neighboring countries.

Hussein made the remarks at a joint press conference in Baghdad with his visiting Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian.

He said that he and the Iranian foreign minister discussed issues of bilateral importance, including border security.

Hussein said that the two foreign ministers also talked about Baghdad’s overdue debt to Iran for its gas deliveries from the country, adding that he had also had negotiations in this regard in his visit to Washington.

The Iraqi government has taken steps for the completion of a railway connecting Iran to Iraq, Hussein said.

He noted that he briefed the Iranian foreign minister on part of the results of his Washington visit that were connected to Iran, adding that they also discussed the most significant regional and international developments.

The Iraqi foreign minister said that any probable agreement between Tehran and Washington is of special importance for Baghdad.
