Iran ready to assist Afghan quake victims: Official

Tehran, IRNA – The head of Iran's Crisis Management Organization Mohammad Hassan Nami announced the organization's full readiness for providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan earthquake victims.

Referring to the 6.1-magnitude earthquake in southeast Afghanistan and the death of a number of Afghan citizens on Wednesday, Nami in an interview with IRNA said that according to the minister's order, the country's crisis management teams are on high alert to send teams to Afghanistan if needed.

He noted that it is a fact that all the people of the world should help each other in times of crisis and danger, and these multilateral meetings can provide the infrastructure for cooperation through understanding and dialogue about capacities.

A powerful earthquake hit Afghanistan, killing around 1000 people in the country.

The quake struck about 44 km (27 miles) from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan and was at a depth of 51km (31 miles).
