-- Raeisi urges development of ties with Azerbaijan, Ethiopia
Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi on Saturday called for the expansion of relations with Azerbaijan and Ethiopia in separate messages to congratulate his counterparts in the two countries on their national days.
In his message to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Independence Day (May 28), Raeisi said the two countries’ historical and religious commonalities and deep connections form firm bases and a valuable support for development of bilateral relations in the new era.
-- Greek tankers seizure a punishment beyond retaliation
Following the Greek government’s seizure of a Russian-operated ship and confiscation of its Iranian oil cargo by the United States, it was quite anticipated that the move would elicit a reaction from the Islamic Republic in retaliation.
It did not take long before the predictions came true as the Iranian Armed Forces seized two Greek oil tankers in the Persian Gulf on Friday.
Any analysis of the Greece’s action confirms the European state’s obsequiousness to the United States.
At present, different vessels and oil tankers navigate freely across the international waters either carrying cargos belonging to Iran or under the Islamic Republic’s flag from port to port, and yet such incidents do not take place.
-- Iran among world’s top 20 automakers: OICA
Iran ranked the world’s 19th biggest automaker in 2021, according to the latest report released by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA).
Based on the OICA data, Iranian automakers produced 894,298 vehicles in 2021 to register a two percent increase compared to 2020.

-- NIOC Chief: Iran Determined to Expand Oil Reach to New Markets
Chief Executive of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mohsen Khojastehmehr said on Saturday that administration of President Raisi has paved way for the supply of crude oil in Iran Energy Exchange (IEE) to boost oil export to target markets.
Khojastehmehr stated that oil export statistics in the current administration indicate an upward trajectory, noting that President Raisi administration has also succeeded in receiving oil export revenues from other countries.
-- Anger Over Canada’s Political Decision Persists
Iranian Government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi has berated Canada for cancelling a friendly football match with Iran, saying it shows the influence of politics on sports in the West.
“The unilateral cancellation of the Iranian national football team’s game against Canada is another example of the impact of politics on sport,” Jahromi wrote in a post on his Instagram page.
He said Canada took the decision despite making a claim not to allow political considerations to influence sports decisions.
The Iranian official’s remarks came after Canada Soccer, the governing body of football in Canada, announced it had cancelled the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 friendly match with Iran that was scheduled to be held in Vancouver on June 5.
-- Iran Men’s Team Runners-Up at IWBF Asia Oceania Championships
Iranian men’s team lost to Australia 56-50 in the final match of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Asia Oceania Championships on Saturday.
The bronze medal went to the Korea Republic, who bounced back from their semifinal loss to overcome hosts Thailand 68-50 in the third-place match.
Iran has already booked their place at the 2022 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship as one of the top four teams. The competition will be held in Dubai, the UAE from Nov. 16 to 27.

-- Iran lawmakers meet African ambassadors
Members of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee held a meeting with African ambassadors to Iran.
Fifteen African ambassadors attended the meeting which was held on the occasion of Africa Day on May 25.
Abbas Golrou, chairman of the parliamentary committee, told ICANA that “in this meeting, the obstacles of Iran-Africa cooperation, priorities from the perspective of Africans, and strategies for developing cooperation were discussed.”
-- “Nahid” director Ida Panahandeh to hold master class at Zurich festival
Ida Panahandeh, director of the acclaimed Iranian drama “Nahid”, will be holding a master class at the 8th edition of the Iranian Film Festival Zurich currently underway in Switzerland.
She will discuss the role of women in Iranian cinema during a master class, which will be held on June 1, the organizers have announced.
Creating a character, paying for it and representing it in Iranian cinema are associated with limitations that prevent the diverse, deep and influential reflection of female characters in films produced in Iranian cinema.
-- Iranian Elamitologist honored by UNESCO
On Friday, the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO held a ceremony at the National Museum of Iran in downtown Tehran to commemorate veteran researcher and Elamitologist Abdolmajid Arfaei.
Entitled “Faces to the Sun”, the event was organized to honor Arfaei for his lifetime achievement in translating ancient languages, ISNA reported on Saturday.
The ceremony was attended by a number of cultural officials including the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO director Hojjatollah Ayyubi, the National Museum director Jebrael Nokandeh, scholar and expert on Shahnameh Mir Jalaleddin Kazzazi, and linguist Jaleh Amuzegar.
