Trade potential between Pakistan’s Sindh, Iran’s Hormuzgan provinces discussed

Islamabad, IRNA -- A virtual meeting to discuss ways to increase economic and trade relations between Iran’s Hormuzgan province and Pakistan’s Sindh province was held on Tuesday at the initiative of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Karachi.

Iranian Consul General in Karachi, Hassan Nourian, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs and Regional Development of Hormuzgan Province Ali Firoozi, representatives of the Samat Organization, Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hormuzgan and Vice President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan, Mohammad Jabbar participated in the conference.

The speakers discussed scope of trade cooperation between Iran and Pakistan, especially the provincial trade.

Ali Firoozi, Deputy Governor of Hormuzgan for Economic Affairs and Regional Development briefed the participants about the existing capacities and potentials of cooperation in Hormuzgan in various fields, including industry and mining, petrochemicals, fisheries, shipbuilding and others.

The Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries also welcomed the cooperation between the two countries while noting the obstacles and measures taken by Pakistan to facilitate bilateral trade.

"The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce encourages investors to do business with Iran and is in talks with the Ministry of Commerce, Finance Ministry and State Bank of Pakistan and other institutions of the Pakistani government," Mohammad Jabbar said.

Mehdi Amir Jafari, Economic Advisor to the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Karachi, and Hossein Amini, Commercial Attaché of Iran in Pakistan discussed Pakistan's strategy of interacting with other countries and using this potential.

At the end, the Consul General of Iran and the Deputy Governor of Hormuzgan emphasized the various capacities of cooperation between the two countries, especially the two cities of Karachi and Bandar Abbas, and agreed to boost the bilateral trade.
