Iran FM meets top Pakistani commander, discusses bilateral cooperation

Islamabad, IRNA -- Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hossein Amirabdollahian has met with Pakistan Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on the sidelines of the OIC conference on Sunday and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and regional developments.

The foreign minister who had a busy day in Islamabad met the Pakistani Army Chief in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

Members of the Iranian delegation, Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mohammad Ali Hosseini, Iranian Defense Attaché Colonel Mostafa Qanbarpour, and Pakistani military and security officials were also present in the meeting.

Dr. Hossein Amirabdollahian and General Qamar Javed Bajwa discussed the latest developments related to Iran-Pakistan bilateral security and border cooperation.

The two sides shared their views on regional events, in particular the situation in Afghanistan.

It is pertinent to mention that prior to meeting the Pakistani Army Chief Iranian foreign minister met the Prime Minister of Pakistan and his counterparts from some other countries.

This is the first visit of Hossein Amirabdollahian to Pakistan since assuming the charge of Foreign Minister of Iran.

The Commander of the Pakistani Army hosted Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on October 12th.
