Iran’s Yazd city and Portugal’s Braga city named sisters

Yazd, June 3, IRNA – Signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on virtual space on Wednesday, Iran’s Yazd city and Portugal’s Braga city were named sisters in the presence of those two cities officials.

Yazd Governor Jamaleddin Azizi in the ceremony on the occasion referred to the significance of sisterhood agreements with world cities, arguing: This is Yazd’s sixth sisterhood agreement with major world cities.

Azizi also pointed out that Braga is chosen as the supreme tourism destination in Europe in the year 2021, adding: We hope keeping in mind the noticeable characteristics of Braga, especially in tourism field, excellent relations between these two cities will be established.

He further reiterated that the MOU is also in line with scientific, cultural, and industrial exchanges, in addition to cooperation in tourism field.

According to this Iranian official, Braga, Portugal is after Jászberény in Hungary, Poti in Georgia, Khiva in Uzbekistan, Gyumeri in Armenia, and Linz in Austria the sixth sister Yazd in the world.

Braga is a historical city with a 2,000-year history in northwest part of Portugal.

Yazd is the first historical city of Iran with unique international characteristics that was established as a UNESCO Mankind Heritage thanks to the votes of the majority of its members, in Krakow, Poland.

 Yazd has 2,270 hectares of historical texture and 720 nationally registered monuments.
