Ceasefire in Gaza demonstrates power of unified Palestine: Pakistani FM

Islamabad, May 21, IRNA -- Foreign Minister of Pakistan welcoming the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza says this is the power of collective action for unified Palestine against the atrocities of Zionist regime.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi who traveled to New York to attend the UN General Assembly session on the situation in Palestine welcomed the establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza 11 days after the invasion of Palestine by the Zionist occupying forces.

“This is the power of collective, unified action; this is the effort of every person and every nation, together for a just cause. May this ceasefire be the 1st step towards peace in Palestine,” said the foreign minister in a tweet.

He said Israel’s occupation of Palestine must end and illegal settlements and apartheid-like regimes imposed in the occupied territories must be dismantled.

“Implementation of UN resolutions for the establishment of independent and contiguous Palestinian State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, imperative,” he said.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly Qureshi blamed the Security Council for failing to prevent Zionist attacks on Palestine and suggested sending an international security force to Palestine to protect the Palestinian people.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the Pakistani Foreign Minister met with the Speaker of the General Assembly, officials of various countries, including his Saudi and Kuwaiti counterparts.

Al-Mayadin news network reported, quoting the Zionist media that the Israeli cabinet unanimously agreed to a ceasefire in a three-hour meeting on Thursday night.

Al-Mayadin in Gaza reported that Egyptian officials had informed Palestinian groups of a simultaneous ceasefire in Gaza.
