Speaker: Leader's message to Pres. Putin serves strategic ties with Russia

Moscow, Feb 8, IRNA - Iran's Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said he is carrying the message of Iran's Supreme Leader to the Russian government as an initiative which falls within the framework of strategic relations between the two countries.

He made the remarks upon his arrival in Moscow on Sunday.

Talking to reporters, Qalibaf said he is in Moscow upon the official invitation of his Russian counterpart.

This is his first trip to the country, he further noted.

Relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation are based on a long-term strategic bonds, the speaker said, adding that the parliaments of the two countries too are working to further deepen and develop  strategic cooperation on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.

He pointed to the unilateral sanctions imposed by the West on both countries and said that Iran and Russia are working together in various economic fields to reduce the impact of sanctions.  

Qalibaf said that during his stay in Moscow, we will discuss the JCPOA and issues related to the nuclear agreement with Russian officials. 

Qalibaf added that the COVID-19 pandemic and Iran's first consignment of vaccine imported from Russia and the continuation of cooperation in the field of health are also on the agenda of negotiations.

On Monday, Qalibaf will meet with scholars in the Institute of Oriental Studies and also with the Speaker of the Duma of the Russian Federation and the Federation Council.

He will also meet with the President of the Eurasian Union, Russia 24, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and Security Council Secretary Patrushev on Tuesday. He will address the Diplomatic Academy later in the day to celebrate the victory of the Revolution.
