Shahdaie: Kaveh petchem facility to come on stream next year

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA – Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Petrochemical Affairs Marzieh Shahdaie said on Monday that Kaveh Petrochemical Facility, the biggest methanol producing unit, will be put into operation next year after the term of the incumbent government ends.

She made the remarks in a press conference.

Shahdaie said that Iran's petrochemical production capacity has reached 60 million tons a year and it is to reach 100 million tons by the next five years and 140 million tons by the next 10 years.

She said that National Iranian Petrochemical Company (NPC) has signed two deals with Total SA of France and Linde Group of Germany after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and is to sign two more such deals with other companies in the near future.

Shahdaie said that the deals' time span is between 12 and 14 months and they will eventually be made into a contract.

She said that after the JCPOA, many companies have turned to Iran, which is the future petrochemical hub.

Shahdie said over the past three years, 15.5 percent increase was observed in production of petrochemical products.

She said that some 46 percent growth was observed in export of petrochemical products in the past three years and 12 percent in the past one year.

Shahdaie said that Lorestan Petrochemical Facility, Urmia Sulfuric Acid, Kavian Phase II, Marvdasht Ammonia and Urea, Morvarid Glycol Ethyl, Mahshahr Takht-e-Jamshid and Mahabad Petrochemical Facility were put into operation.

She added that of course, five projects have been officially put into operation and two more projects have not been fully operational.

'All the projects were commissioned at a cost of 2.2 billion euros and following their operation, about four million tons have been added to the national petrochemical production capacity.'

She said that a number of other projects will be operational in the year 1396 (2017-18), including the first phase of Bushehr Petrochemical Facility, Ilam Olefin, Assaluyeh Concentrated Reservoir, Marjan Methanol, Kaveh Petrochemical Facility and Sadaf Petrochemical Facility.

She said there are 55 semi-finished projects in the petrochemical sector and 15 such units will be operational this year and next year.

She added that 20 to 22 billion euros are needed for completion of remaining 40 projects so that they will be operational in the next five years.
