Speaking during a meeting of National Biosafety Council, Jahangiri said that the government supports the advancement of different branches of biotechnology and genetics engineering on conditions that the negative impacts of these sciences are brought under control.
As some of the new sciences may contain negative impacts, one cannot prevent them from growing, Jahangiri said.
Their negative impacts have to be under control, instead, in order to make use of their advantages, he added.
If the Ministry of Health and the Department of Environment feel that some plans may be harmful for the health of the society, they will undoubtedly use their legal authority to prevent them, Jahangiri said.
The minister of science, research and technology, the minister of health, head of the Department of Environment, as well as several lawmakers were present at the meeting.
