During the negotiations, Hamas demanded an end to the war, the return of the refugees, aid and the beginning of the reconstruction of Gaza, he was quoted by Sama news agency as saying.
Hamdan said that Hamas’ proposal is “completely realistic” in a way that the enemy cannot reject it.
Under this plan, we provided specific details regarding the issue of Israeli captives, Palestinians held in Israeli jails and the withdrawal of the occupying forces from Gaza, he noted.
On Friday, Hamas presented a two-phase proposal to mediators and the US. It includes the release of Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, 100 of whom are serving life sentences. The initial release of Israelis would include female troopers, other women, children and elderly in return for the release of 700-1,000 Palestinians.
The proposal also includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from cities and populated areas in the first phase and a complete pullout in the second phase. It also calls for the end of siege as well as the reconstruction of Gaza that has been turned into the rubble by Israeli bombings and shelling that began on October 7, 2023.
Moreover, Hamas urged Egypt, Qatar and the United States to follow and oversee the implementation of the agreement.
Hamdan said on Saturday that Hamas is still awaiting the response from Israel and the United States which is a key backer of the regime in the war on Gaza.
The Hamas official further emphasized that the Zionist regime has failed to achieve any of its declared goals in the war, adding that Benjamin Netanyahu knows what blows his army has suffered in Gaza.
