Tehran, IRNA -- Iran's Ambassador to India Iraj Elahi and Indian Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal have conferred on growing cooperation between the two countries.

Elahi met and held talks with Sonowal in New Delhi on Wednesday, the Iranian Embassy said in a post shared on X, formerly Twitter.

It said that constructive talks were held over the latest developments in cooperation between the two countries in Chabahar and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).

The meeting was also covered in a report by Asian News International (ANI), which described India-Iran relations as spanning over the centuries and marked by meaningful interactions. The two countries shared a border till 1947, and share several common features in their language, culture, and traditions, the report said.

In early January, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian hosted his Indian counterpart Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Tehran where they discussed expanding bilateral and multilateral ties within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, a bloc of emerging economies to which Iran and India are parties.
