Protesters in Haifa call on Netanyahu to step down

Tehran, IRNA – Hundreds of Israelis have protested in the city of Haifa against the cabinet of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as public anger has been growing over what is seen as the regime’s inaction to release captives held in Gaza.

The protesters took to the streets of Haifa on Saturday night, calling on Netanyahu and his cabinet to resign, Israeli Daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

A rally was also held in Tel Aviv a day earlier, with the demonstrators venting anger at what they see as the cabinet’s inaction to release the captives and protect their lives.

Similar demonstrations have taken place over the past weeks since Hamas took some 240 people captive during its Al-Aqsa Storm Operation on October 7.

Of those captives, who include Israelis and nationals from other countries, 105 people were released as part of a truce between Hamas and Israel, which started on November 24 and ended early December 1.

They were released in exchange for the freedom of 240 Palestinians from Israeli prisons.

Hamas has time and again said that the Israeli regime should stop its war on Gaza in order for any negotiations to take place over the release of the remaining captives.

The issue has become a source of public anger in Israel after some of the Israelis held by Hamas were killed in the regime’s attacks on Gaza.
