Iran FM urges further Tehran-Baghdad ties to ensure regional peace

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has called for further cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad to help establish peace and stability in the region.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a meeting held in Tehran on Sunday with the visiting Iraqi Deputy Parliament Speaker Muhsin al-Mandalawi and his delegation, the IRNA reported on Monday.

Cooperation between Iran and Iraq is a prime example in the region, Amirabdollahian underlined.

In his remarks, the foreign minister appreciated the Iraqi parliament, government and nation for strongly condemning the Zionist regime’s criminal measures in Gaza.

As Amirabdollahian noted, Iraq played an effective role in the recent developments in Gaza.

For his part, the Iraqi official said his country is satisfied with the brotherly ties with Iran and stressed the need to expand such relations in all areas, particularly in the parliamentary field.

He said Baghdad has a firm stance on condemning the Zionist crimes in Gaza.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he invited the Iranian companies to participate in the engineering and development projects in Iraq.

He also expressed hope that the two would expand consular cooperation to pave the way for the Iraqi students to study in the Iranian universities.
