Momeni said on Tuesday in a meeting in Tehran with Shazain Bugti that smugglers have entered waterways of Iran and Pakistan in recent years and have created problem for ports in the two countries.
He said in the meeting that despite the change of government in Afghanistan, there has been a growth of narcotics production in the country in the past two years.
We witness the growth of producing different manufactured drugs in Afghanistan, he said, adding that Iran and Pakistan as the neighboring states of the country have no choice but to pursue cooperation to tackle the problem.
The Pakistani official, for his part, said that the Iran-Pakistan border is the border of friendship and the two states should have more cooperation on intelligence issues.
Shazain Bugti said that due to the circumstances in Afghanistan and the danger the country has created, Pakistan and Iran are aligned to resolve the drug crisis.
The narcotics are considered a big problem for all countries, he said, adding that the emergence of new drugs has exacerbated the crisis.
He also urged the Iranian police to provide Pakistan with its experiences on training anti-narcotics police forces.
