The Iranian Navy’s submarines and helicopters annihilated underwater targets by firing advanced homegrown torpedoes during a large-scale war game underway in the country's southeastern waters.
On the Fourth day of the Zolfaqar 1401 drill, the Iranian Navy's Tareq submarine fired a homegrown torpedo, named Miad, for the first time and annihilated underwater targets.
In another operation, the Fateh and Qadir submarines destroyed targets in the Sea of Oman and the northern parts of the Indian Ocean with Valfajr-2 torpedoes.
An SH helicopter of the Navy also dropped the Mark 46 torpedo and successfully destroyed the hypothetical enemy’s positions.
Valfajr smart torpedoes have anti-deception capability, high speed with high explosive power and destruction, and can destroy and submerge large sea targets and vessels within a second, as well as short preparation time in support units and firing units.
In another operation, the Army's naval missile systems and naval units destroyed their surface targets at sea using Nasr missiles.
At this stage of the exercise, the Najm missile launcher successfully hit and destroyed the surface target set at sea by firing the Nasr cruise missile.
In another operation, to support the army's ground and naval forces, F-14 jet fighters fired and used 250-, 500-pound bombs to target areas held by attacking units in the enemy's role.
Zolfaqar 1401 drills cover the Jask region, located near the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran, as well as areas to the north of the Indian Ocean, according to the commander in charge of the exercises Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.
Ground, air, and naval forces of the Iranian Army participate in the joint exercises which are held to showcase the self-confidence and combat power of the Iranian military forces and their ability to ensure sustainable security and stability in the region.
Rear Admiral Sayyari said that boosting Army forces’ skills in carrying out operations in special circumstances and environments is among the main objectives of Zolfaqar 1401 drills.
He reiterated that the drills are aimed at reminding other countries that peace in the region can only be ensured through potentials existing in the region itself and through more cooperation and unity among regional states.
