Tehran, IRNA – The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Monday, December 5, 2022:

-- Iran’s oil sales rise 20% to 1.2mbd: MP

A member of Iran’s Parliament said oil sales by the country rose by 20% in the first half of the year that started in late March against the previous six-month period to reach 1.2 million barrels per day (mbd).
Mohammadreza Pour-Ebrahimi said that Iran had also increased its exports of petroleum products over the March-September period.
The announcement confirms previous reports by global tanker tracking services which indicated that Iran has been increasing its oil exports in recent months despite a continued regime of US sanctions that bar countries and entities that have interests in the US from buying Iranian oil.

-- Iran’s March-November tax revenues top $8.8b

Iran collected around $8.85 billion worth of tax in the eight months to November 21, according to a report that cites data from the Iranian National Tax Administration (INTA). The report by Tasnim News Agency said INTA’s total tax receipts for the March-November period had exceeded 3,100 trillion trials.
The report said the INTA had collected some 1,940 trillion rials in direct tax in the eight months to late November of which some 1,270 trillion rials were corporate receipts.

-- Khayyam’s tomb and museum in Neyshabur attractive for tourists

Omar Khayyam (1048-1131 CE) was a celebrated Persian figure who earned fame at home and abroad as a mathematician, astronomer and philosopher. But in the West, his chief claim to fame has been his poetry, thanks to the English translation of his rubaiyat (a collection of quatrains). The tomb and museum of the outstanding scientist is in southeastern Neyshabur, in a massive garden compound. It is among the main tourist attractions of the region, hosting a large number of travelers and sightseers from various parts of Iran and the world every year. However, due to the lack of financial resources, Khayyam Museum was closed five years ago, and its objects were moved to a storehouse.

-- Iran FM in Serbia, Discusses Expansion of Ties 

Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian said in Belgrade on Sunday that relations between Iran and Serbia are based on constructive cooperation in different areas. The Iranian foreign minister met his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic, saying they discussed bilateral, regional and international cooperation. He touched on the recent riots in Iran, saying the U.S. and several Western countries sought to create chaos in Iran, and one of America’s goals was to force Iran to give big concessions at the negotiation table.

-- War Animation Named Best at Moscow’s Charity Festival

The International Charity Film Festival ‘Radiant Angel’ in Russia has awarded Iranian short animation ‘Irreversible’.Directed by Sheyda Kashi, the film won the Best Animation award at the 18th edition of the Russian event.
‘Irreversible’, taking about two years to be produced, is an 8-minute 2D animation. A brief synopsis for the flick reads, “A country has been invaded and occupied by the forces of another country. There only remains one survivor, who, has been trying hard to redefine the alienated meaning of their life”.

-- Iranian Rowers Finish Asian Competitions With 8 Medals

Iranian rowers finished the Asian rowing competitions in Thailand with 8 medals on Sunday. The Iranian national rowing team participated in the 2022 Asian Rowing Championships with 13 athletes and 5 coaches.
At the end of the tournament, Iran’s national team won 3 gold and 5 bronze medals. Mahsa Javar (double sculls) and Nazanin Malaei (lightweight quadruple sculls and double sculls) were the two Iranian women who bagged the three gold medals in different categories.

-- Over 570 foreign films submitted to Fajr festival 

The organizers of the Fajr International Film Festival announced on Saturday that they have received 578 submissions to the international competition of the 41st edition of the event. The submissions are from 72 countries, including the USA, Germany, France, England, Denmark, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, China and Lebanon. 

A selection of the submissions will compete in Salvation Cinema, the official section of the event, and Eastern Vista, a category dedicated to Asian films.

-- Exports of paint, resin up 17% in 8 months yr/yr

As announced by the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran exported 7,291 tons of paint and resin worth $25.769 million during the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-November 21) to register a 17 percent growth year on year. Morteza Emadi said the export of the mentioned products has also increased 9.5 percent in terms of weight, IRIB reported.

Iraq, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan were the major export destinations of Iranian paint and resin in the mentioned eight months, according to Emadi.

-- Turan hosting 175 endangered Persian zebras

Some 175 endangered Persian zebras have so far been counted in Turan National Park, northcentral Semnan province, according to the latest census.

The Persian onager, also called the Persian zebra, is a subspecies of onager native to Iran. It is listed as ‘Endangered’, with no more than 1,000 individuals left in the wild and only 30 individuals living within North American institutions.
