Female Iranian climber scales K2 peak for first time

Tehran, IRNA – Afsaneh Hesamifard is the first female Iranian climber to conquer the K2 peak in Pakistan.

The K2 with 8,611 meters above sea level is the world’s second highest mountain following Mount Everest.

Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) confirmed that a team of female climbers reached the peak of K2 Mountain, noting that Hesamifard is the first Iranian woman who has succeeded in reaching the K2 summit.

On Saturday, Karrar Haidri told IRNA in Islamabad that Afsaneh is a bold and brave climber, adding that her experience of climbing Mount Everest helped her reach the K2 summit.

Haidri congratulated the success to the Iranian people and sports society.

Hesamifard had managed to scale Everest in March this year. It takes 45 to 60 days to climb Everest.

Kazem Faridian, Azim Gheychisaz, Reza Shahlaie, and Hossein Bahmanyar are the only male Iranian climbers who have managed to conquer Everest.

Davoud Khadem also attempted to reach the peak of Mount Everest in 2004, but he lost his life during the ascent. He was a member of an international team, but he and a Russian climber disappeared following a storm.
