Iran-Afghanistan border security should improve: Chief of staff

Zahedan, IRNA - Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri said that Iran’s eastern borders are especially sensitive and Iran-Afghanistan borders need more security.

Major General Bagheri inspected the operation units of the Offensive Mobile Brigade 158 of the Army’s Ground Force and the Southeast Border Guard units during his travel to the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province on Monday.

The commander told reporters, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been tasked with deploying its units to support the Border Guard.

He hailed the Brigade 158 for their good preparedness and deployment.

Bagheri also attended the opening ceremony of water supply project of the Army to 18 villages in Hirmand region of the province, singling out water as the most fundamental need of the people in this region.

He said that the Army recognized it as its duty to render to people any services they need via its engineering, health and transportation equipment and human resources.

The commander also promised that the Army would equip Hirman Hospital and provide it with the necessary equipment.

The Iranian government is trying its best through diplomatic communications to secure the water right of Hirmand river, Bagheri underlined.
