Head of Russian Geopolitical Studies Academy Constantine Siokov said in an exclusive interview with IRNA on Monday that Iran and Russia have special responsibility to maintain stability and security in the region, and that they are trying to play positive role in this respect.
Russia's official media outlets reported that President Raisi is going to visit Moscow this week. The Iranian president will pay a visit to Russia at the invitation of his Russian counterpart to hold talks on cultural, political, economic, technologic and many other issues.
Siokov noted that an important part of the bilateral talks will be allocated to subjects such as the current developments in Syria, Afghanistan and the South Caucasus.
Iran-Russia cooperation has been very fruitful to resolve political turmoil in Syria, which is an example of successful collaboration to protect security and stability in the region, he argued.
According to the analyst, the two regional powers (Russia and Iran) can play key role in settling disputes in Afghanistan, Caucasus and Yemen.
Therefore, more coordination between Iranian and Russian authorities is of great importance, he mentioned.
Iran and Russia are able to stand against the United States' destructive measures in the region and foil plots hatched by the US and its allies to dissolve regional states such as Syria by the use of terrorist groups, Siokov said.
Moscow and Tehran also can bolster economic cooperation, especially in energy and transportation arenas, he noted, expressing hope that lifting anti-Iran sanctions can pave the ground for expansion of trade and economic exchanges between Russia and Iran.
The US resorts to imposing sanctions on independent countries in a bid to hinder their progress and cooperation with other nations, he added.
The Russian expert is of the opinion that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation can also collaborate in manufacturing aircrafts and helicopters, as well as researching high-tech and agricultural know-how.
