Tehran-Ashgabat relations a model for regional countries: Iranian veep

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber said on Saturday that relations between Iran and Turkmenistan should set a model for other regional countries.

Mokhber made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedow.

He said that a new era in relations between Iran and Turkmenistan began with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi coming into power in August.

Mokhber called for expansion of relations between the two countries in all areas, including, oil, energy, rail, sea, and land transportation as well as exports of engineering services.

Regretting that the current level of bilateral exchanges between Tehran and Ashgabat is not satisfactory, he said that expansion of Iran-Turkmenistan bilateral relations has to turn into a model for regional countries.

Berdimuhamedow, for his part, said that the recent visit to Turkmenistan by President Raisi ushered in a new stage in relations between the two countries.

He said that there are many grounds for cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan, expressing hope that the new approach of the Iranian government would help further boost bilateral relations.
