Ahmad Dastmalchian, former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, told IRNA on Monday that the United States proposed conditions in the last six rounds of talks in Vienna, Austria, which are not acceptable by the Islamic Republic, while the Americans are expected to lift sanctions and abide by their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Therefore, the result of the current negotiations in Vienna depends on the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions, Dastmalchian said, noting that the US should comply with its commitments, including the sanction removal, and that the move should be verified; then, Iranians are ready to keep up their end of bargain.
But Washington puts forward demands, which are not in relation to the JCPOA contents, he said, adding that they have conditions on Iran's defense and missile programs, which are unacceptable and inapplicable because the conditions are violating Iran's national interests.
The US and Europe are expected to implement their banking, oil, and trade commitments under the JCPOA because it is not tolerable that Iran should return to its commitments while it witnesses breach of promises by other signatories to the nuclear deal.
As to President Ebrahim Raisi's strategy when it comes to the JCPOA, the former diplomat noted that the 13th administration in Tehran sees the nuclear accord merely as one of foreign policy issues of the Islamic Republic, so the statesmen does not want to relate all other issues to the negotiations.
Iran enjoys proper relationships and exchanges with regional and international players, he said, adding that there is no need to wait for the result of the Vienna talks to resolve problems.
Referring to the Zionist regime's destructive interference in Vienna talks, he mentioned that the Zionists influence decision-making processes in the US and certain European countries and that they try hard to get in the way of the Vienna talks.
