FM: Iran doubts US determination to return to JCPOA

New York, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a meeting with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian said Iran is doubtful about Biden Administration determination to return to Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.

Amirabdollahian hailed negotiations in Baghdad, saying that Iran considers France interested in developing ties with Iran.

Iranian government is interested in developing bilateral and regional cooperation.

The Iranian government considers negotiations as an important tool for diplomacy, he said, adding that Iran is ready to return to the negotiations and is rapidly reviewing the background of talks.

He expressed regret over the lack of serious and practical action by the United States and the E3 in complying with their commitments.

Regarding developments in Afghanistan, he said Iran is encouraging all parties to establish an inclusive government.

He pointed to influx of refugees to Iran and Iran’s background of hosting refugees.

He called for the international support, for example from France, with regard to vaccinating refugees.

Meanwhile, Jean-Yves Le Drian welcomed Iran’s position with regard to establishing an inclusive government and preventing terrorist acts in Afghanistan.

He reiterated the importance of helping refugees in neighboring states.

He said that France is interested in resuming nuclear talks.
