IRCS starts importing 5-million doses of COVID-19 vaccines

Tehran, IRNA - Head of Iranian Red Crescent Society Karim Hemmati said the 18th consignment of COVID-19 vaccine containing five million doses was delivered to Iran's Health Ministry.

Hemmati said the IRCS has so far imported 25,390,000 doses of vaccine.

He referred to the last remarks of President Ebrahim Raisi during a live address regarding supplying 40 million doses of vaccine, saying the process will be accelerated.

Earlier, Raisi said the administration has now decided that domestic production couldn’t meet demands as 100 million doses of coronavirus vaccine were certainly needed.

The President noted that he included the issue of importing vaccines in his conversations with some world leaders and the import of 40 million doses was secured this way.

He vowed to supply 40 million doses of coronavirus vaccines by September 22, as he has tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Health Ministry and the Basij forces as well as a number of other governmental bodies with prioritizing the supply of national and foreign currency for this purpose.
