Qalibaf met with Duarte Ventura Pachko, the president of (IPU) on Friday. Pachko has traveled to Iran to attend the inauguration of the 13th Iranian president, Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi.
Stating that some countries dominate international organizations with money and resources, Qalibaf said that it is how unilateralism forms and each decision they make must be implemented. Imposing sanctions against Iran is a case in point; the United Nations and the UN Security Council make a decision and the United States ignores them all and executes its own decision.
Expressing that the IPU, as a representative of parliaments, could be a mediator between the people, governments, and powers, he explained that members of parliament are closer to the people and better able to convey their message, adding that although at first, the great powers pretend to represent the people, their kind of power is such that they may stand against the people.
Urging the IPU to stop US unilateralism, Qalibaf went on to say that they have the power to influence international regimes, organizations, and NGOs, especially organizations such as the FATF, FIFA, and UNESCO; therefore, the inter-parliamentary union must seize the opportunity and be effective by acting effectively on international and regional issues in order to pay attention to the security and development of countries as a priority.
He reminded that the IPU can also be instrumental in bringing peace and security to West Asia region and that foreign governments should not be allowed to infiltrate the region.
The president of the IPU said in the meeting that the IPU would not allow any country to manage it.
Stressing that the union is an organization that supports multilateralism for solving the world's problems, IPU president said that the international body supports dialog and believes that whatever happens in the world will have an impact elsewhere.
The head of the IPU stated that one of the mechanisms to prevent the excessive influence of some countries in this organization is to try to maintain the vote of all countries equally, and for the IPU, the conditions of these countries such as their population is not significant and each country has only one vote in this union.
He also said that on the other hand, some countries pay voluntary contributions, but the IPU has not allowed the issue to become a reason for the organization to depend on these countries.
