In an interview with IRNA, Hunter pointed to the untimely withdrawal of the United States from Afghanistan and said that the US has been involved in Afghanistan for over 20 years, but it couldn’t realize the simplistic expectation that the country would become a democratic one in two decades.
She underlined that the elite and people in the US ask their government to stay away from developments that have no direct effect on US security, and now Joe Biden’s administration has reached the same conclusion.
She said that the US failure in Afghanistan and Biden’s new priorities have led Washington to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan.
Hunter went on to say that the US has been partly successful in restricting the influence of Al-Qaida in Afghanistan, but it has led to the advent of other terrorist groups like ISIS in the country.
The professor added that despite partial success in the situation of women in Afghanistan, the US has failed to turn Afghanistan to an advanced state; however, those little successes regarding women have been endangered by the new rise of Taliban.
She predicted that regional competitions would intensify after the US and NATO withdraw their troops from Afghanistan.
I can expect a good future for Afghanistan, Ms. Hunter said, adding that overcoming Afghanistan's problems depends greatly on how united the statesmen of Afghanistan are in their actions.
ٍExpressing concern over a civil war in Afghanistan, she stated that Iran would naturally be watching its eastern neighbor with concern.
