EU High Rep. welcomes progress in Vienna talks

London, June 19, IRNA – The European External Action Service in a statement said that High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in his meeting with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has hailed progress in Vienna talks.

Zarif-Borrell meeting was held on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF).

"The High Representative, as Coordinator of the JCPOA, welcomed the progress made over the last weeks of discussions in view of a possible return of the United States to the JCPOA, and on how to ensure its full and effective implementation by all," the statement reads.

"The Vienna talks allowed to further define the important and difficult decisions that still have to be addressed," it added.

"The High Representative underlined the importance of seizing the political opportunity and recalled the need for all to be flexible, in order to reach a compromise that will be in the interest of all."

"In view of the Iranian Presidential elections happening today, the High Representative called for continued commitment by Iran to the JCPOA," EEAS said.

"The High Representative and Minister Zarif also discussed the situation in Afghanistan, in view of the upcoming withdrawal of international forces from the country and the international community’s engagement and commitment to ensure stability in the region".
