Pakistan attaches great importance to ties with Iran: PM Imran

Islamabad, April 18, IRNA -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, ahead of his maiden official visit to Iran said Islamabad attaches great importance to its relations with Iran.

According to IRNA, he made the remarks during a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honordoost who called on him in Islamabad on Thursday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed gratitude to Iran's President Hassan Rouhani for inviting him to visit the brotherly neighboring country of Iran.

'Pakistan attaches great importance to its neighbors, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has many common interests with Pakistan,' said the Prime Minister.

He expressed the hope that the visit would be helpful to further expanding and deepening the relations between Iran and Pakistan.

Ambassador Honordoost during the meeting discussed matters pertaining to the Prime Minister's upcoming visit to Iran. He said the visit would prove to be successful for bilateral ties.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan will pay a two-day official visit to Iran from Sunday. He is visiting Iran on the invitation of President Hassan Rouhani and it will be the first visit of the Prime Minister to Iran.

The visit will include a brief stop-over in Mashhad before arriving in Tehran for bilateral talks with the Iranian leaders.

The Prime Minister will also call on Iranian Supreme Leader Seyed Ali Khamenei besides holding detailed consultations with President Hassan Rouhani.

He will also meet members of the Iranian and Pakistani business community in Iran.
