Iran missing oil rig suspects sentenced to imprisonment

Tehran, April 7, IRNA – An Iranian court sentenced four suspects of the missing oil rig case to various imporisonment terms.

They were accused of dishonesty, aid and abet in it and illegal money making.

Based on the injunction, the former managing director of the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company Ali Taheri Motlagh as the prime suspect of the case was sentenced to three years in prison.

Morad Shirani, as the second suspect was also sentenced to six months in prison for dishonesty.

Reza Mostafavi, the third suspect of the case has been sentenced to three years in prison for dishonesty against $87m.

Earlier Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh vowed that Iran will pursue the case of the Iranian missing drilling oil rig.

In recent months, Iran has been witnessing fluctuations in prices and foreign exchange rates. The judicial system has launched a vigirous campaign against individuals and gangs which are causing economic crises in the country.

Based on a report earlier released by Central Bank of Iran (CBI), and after investigation carried out by Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and the Police, a number of key individuals involved in embarrassing the Forex and currency markets were arrested.

The economic situation and the instability in the Forex market have troubled the Iranian economy.
