Blast kills 31, injures 50 in NW Pakistan

Islamabad, Nov 23, IRNA - At least 31 people were killed and 50 sustained injuries in an explosion in Pakistan’s north western Orakzai region on Friday.

The explosion, according to officials was caused by an improvised explosive device, hidden in a carton of vegetables. It took place near an Imambargah in Kalaya Bazaar.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has also strongly condemned the terrorist attack in lower Orakzai of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

The prime minister labelled the attack 'a planned campaign to create unrest in the country by those who do not want Pakistan to prosper'.

The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment, local authorities said. The area has been completely sealed off and investigation into the incident is under way.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The explosion in lower Orakzai is the second terrorism activity in the country today. Earlier this morning, a terror attack targeting the Chinese Consulate situated in Karachi's Clifton area was foiled by security forces.
