Body of Malaysian climber found in Damavand peak after one year

Sari, Mazandaran prov, Oct 28, IRNA – The body of a Malaysian climber was found a year after he went missing while ascending Damavand peak in northern Iran.

A climbing team initially found the body of the Malaysian climber on Friday while climbing down the peak. They reported the case to the Red Crescent Department of the city of Amol in the northern province of Mazandaran which quickly dispatched a rescue team to the region.

Due to short of time and darkness, they failed to accomplish their mission on Friday and resumed their search operation on Saturday.

The rescue workers finally found the body of the climber on Saturday and brought it down from a 4,300-meter height.

The body will be handed over to officials from Malaysian embassy in Tehran later today.

A Malaysian 12-member group of climbers were ascending Iran's highest peak last November when ten of whom decided to return in the height of 5,200 meters for bad weather conditions and heavy snowfall.

The two others, who insisted on continuing with their way, went missing. The body of one of the missing climbers was found following five days of intensive search operations but the operation was stopped because of dire weather situation.
