The Saudi regime announced on Saturday that it has executed Ayatollah Nimr along with some other 46 people.
Martyrdom of Ayatollah Nimr has triggered anger of Shiite Muslims worldwide.
During the past two days, two protest rallies were held in the city of al-Kut, capital of Wasit Province, to condemn Shahid (Martyr) Nimr's execution by the Saudi regime.
The Iraqi official said that naming of the school after Shahid Nimr was aimed at commemorating and appreciating his efforts to defend Islam and the oppressed.

Baghdad, Jan 4, IRNA- Director of Education Department of Iraq's Wasit Province Aghil Al-Hajami on Monday said one of the secondary schools of the Iraqi eastern province was named after the executed prominent Shia cleric of Saudi Arabia Ayatollah Nimr al-Nimr.
